Jade’s story is one of resilience and Remarkable potential

When Jade arrived at Smiling Child in February last year at just 12 years old, he had never had the opportunity to attend school due to circumstances beyond his control. Despite this, it quickly became clear that he had a completely “normal” and indeed strong ability to learn and retain information.

Within only a few months, Jade made extraordinary progress. He learned to read and write, developed a solid understanding of mathematics, and showed impressive enthusiasm for his studies. Even more inspiring, he began helping other children with their learning, demonstrating confidence, kindness, and leadership.

Jade’s journey is a powerful reminder that, given the chance and the right support, children can thrive and exceed expectations.

Smiling Child, the light at the end of the tunnel

Smiling Child has truly been the light at the end of the tunnel for Jade’s mother. After walking a long and difficult road, hope finally began to shine again. In February 2026, we accompanied her to Macassar Hospital to obtain Jade’s “Proof of Birth.” It was more than just a document, it was a step toward dignity, security, and a brighter future for her son. Now, at last, she will be able to receive his official Birth Certificate. A simple piece of paper, but one that carries so much meaning, hope, and possibility. 💛
