OUR MISSION
SMILING CHILD uses a curriculum which has been specifically designed to teach traumatized children literacy, numeracy and life skills and to equip them with the equivalent of a grade 1 education.
Each child will be individually assessed
– Our program is fairly simple
– Lessons are short and on a flexible timetable
– The aim is to bring children educationally to a level where they are able to enter a government school
The majority of our learners have faced difficulty in their lives and need healing before they can even begin their learning program
EDUCATION IS FUN
Jasper, the Director of Training for Open Schools, trained our local community volunteers on how to use the Open Schools worldwide curriculum which has specifically been designed to teach a traumatized brain. This curriculum is taught through play therapy and group interaction.
Using the curriculum and materials we have, we provide the children with a basic education in literacy, numeracy and life skills and we share God’s love with them, and give them hope.
We assist the Community with
Smiling Child offers assistance to mothers, aunty’s and grandmothers of our learners who have been traumatised by gender-based violence.
We have a counsellor and a social worker to assist Smiling Child families.
We assist our learners families who are in need of clothing.
We assist our learners families who are in need of food.
