The ‘Little Women’ who May never make it to be HONOURED
Usually in Women’s Month we see the showcasing of some very brave women, some highly accomplished women, and some lesser-known women. Across all platforms in one way or another, we are introduced to strong, dedicated women, and some who against all odds still manage to reach their goals. It’s great to know that we have these women as role models for our younger generation to aspire to.
But, what about the ‘little women’ whose goals will never be realised. The little women who don’t even know that they can have goals. The little women whose lives are cut short, like the snap of a twig. We can all immediately think of little girls in the news past and present, so I needn’t mention any of them. We have young ladies who will never be honoured like the women we learn of every Women’s Month, because they won’t be here. Some, by the evil hand of others, and some even by their own hand.
Of those still with us there are little girls who don’t know their worth, because no-one embraces them and educates them about it. How can a grown woman who doesn’t know her own worth, pass it to a daughter, or grand-daughter, or niece? We have girls who remain silent when they are sexually abused, and then repeatedly so, because there isn’t anyone sober enough to listen or care about them. As stated, some of these young ladies can’t face the daily challenges of just trying to survive, and end up contemplating taking their own lives.
Let’s take a moment to think of these little women not only in the August months to come. Let’s think of them every day, for what we strive towards and pray they will accomplish when they are no longer little women. When I look at these young ladies I want to whisper, “Oh Child, things are gonna get easier ” and wish I could say so with great conviction. Sandy Nelsen is Blinking out Loud
